At Riverside Centre, we extend a warm welcome to all First Nations people, and we pay our respect to their ongoing connection to land and community.
Riverside Centre acknowledges the Turrbul and the Jagera peoples who are the Traditional Custodians of this land, and recognises their ongoing connection to land, waters and community.
We pay our respects to the First Australians, and their Elders past, present and emerging.
Historical records identify a great number of languages spoken across the area we now know as the greater Brisbane region. In the region of the Brisbane CDB, records indicate the Yuggera language was spoken by the Turrbul and Jagera people.
Communities lived all along the Brisbane river, which provided for peoples’ livelihoods and also traditions, such as tortoise that were caught by the Turrbul people in the swamp area now called Newfarm.
Brisbane was called Mianjin/Meanjin by its traditional custodians.
